On Saturday morning November 24th, over 70 volunteers along with the family themselves, showed up yet again at 708 to clear the lot once & for all. It was a chilly day, but everyone still came to smile, work hard & show their support. Volunteers even showed up with charcoal grills to prepare burgers & hot dogs for the people working. To Anna, these people 'are all angels.' She & the rest of the family are awestruck by the outpouring of support they are receiving, most of which is coming from complete strangers. The weekend before, over 40 volunteers were there to help with the
initial clean-up. The 'Star Ledger' also showed up that day to take pictures
& speak w/the family. They put out an article that featured the family's story in last weeks paper. The 'Asbury Park Press' was here for this last clean-up & another beautiful article was written, telling the family's story.
The clean-up was successful & the lot is clear but the hole in their hearts will always remain.
A TON of wonderful volunteers showed up on Saturday morning!
The area where the house once sat. Volunteers worked tirelessly to remove debris & clear the lot.
The Yurgelonis home; reduced to a long pile of rubble that stretched over 3 properties long.
Volunteers working together to carry large concrete pieces from the homes foundation.
Family member: Bruno Pruscino of Bruno Pruscino Masonry, Inc. came back with the family on Sunday the 25th to 'finish the job.' He donated his time & his machine to push the rest of the home off of the lot.
They discovered Anna & Charlie's master bedroom under a section of the roof.
They sifted through 'the bedroom' but unfortunately nothing was left or worth keeping.
The family's home - completely unrecognizable. Sandy had no mercy.
Anna Yurgelonis picking up the pieces of her home, her life.
Whole walls from their once beautiful home, were uncovered & moved to the curb with the rest of their life.
R.I.P: 708 Brook Avenue Union Beach, NJ
Unfortunately, the family only had insurance on the structure of their home & not on the contents. Therefore, everything they worked so hard for over these last 19 years is gone & they will not be compensated to replace any of it!! They need our help!! Please consider making any donation & please continue to share this blog & their story with others.
No amount is too small! Thank you so much!
Or if you prefer, Checks (made out to Anna Yurgelonis) & gift cards can be sent to me:
